Spring Fever

Wishing for either a major snowstorm, or a complete warm-up. Life has been a bit dull as of late. Or, I'm just finding it that way. 
I have been keeping busy, knitting, crocheting, a little bit of drawing. I've filled up a whole new basket with nice soft baby yarn for hats. And two other baskets are full of yarn and a third one filled with left over balls to make scrap scarves. projects are getting done, but now everything is done and I'm really feeling that Spring itch. My daily to do list is pretty pathetic.
I've set up my art table, cleaned it up, and it is just waiting for a shipment of brand new brushes, a few crafty items, a table easel, brushes, watercolor, and acrylic paints. Colored pencils, drawing pencils, paper and canvas. So, NEVER will I be able to say I am bored with life!!!!! 
Still baking bread, and cooking for myself everyday, getting a little hard since ulcers are back agitating my esophagus. I knew it was only a matter of time before things got worse all over again. But, caught it early, and I'm doing my damndest to stop it from getting out of hand.
Been really into monthly challenges that come from the page owner of MUSED. They are a lot of fun, challenging in a way that I must think more positive. And that is really thinking out of the box for me!!!!
And I'm also doing writing exercises. Yesterday I wrote 500 words on something good that happened last week. Tough one! But I found one, it was all about searching for a carrot cake recipe I use to make when I was manager of No Garlic Market and Deli in Minneapolis. Found it, it just brought back all the crazy memories of working, catering, and starting "CakeWalk Cakes". That carrot cake was the star in my collection of cakes, and cheesecakes. Then came the sandwiches, so good, and really different than anything out there. Life was busy, but I learned so much. And had so much fun meeting people, dining at all the cool restaurants in the city.
Now, life is calm, but the view is good. I keep telling my self that over and over. THE VIEW IS GOOD!!!!

Cranberry Wild Rice Bread....MMMMMMMM

INGREDIANTS 1 package active dry yeast 2 1/4 cups warm water (110-115 degrees F). Divided 1/4 cup sugar, divided  1/4 cup molasses 1/4 cup vegetable oil 1 tablespoon salt 2 cups cooked wild rice 1 package Sun-Maid Cape Cod Cranberries, chopped 4 cups Bread flour 2 cups whole wheat flour DIRECTIONS In a mixing bowl, dissolve yeast in 1/2 the warm water, with i/2 the sugar: Let stand for 10 minutes. Add the molasses, oil, and remaining water and sugar: Mix well. Add wild rice and chopped cranberries. In another bowl mix together both flours with 1 tablespoon salt. Stir in enough flour to make a soft dough. Turn onto a floured surface: Knead until smooth and elastic, about 8 minutes, add more flour if needed. Place in a greased bowl and let rise in a warm lace until doubled, about 1 1/2 hours. Punch dough down, divide into two loaves, place into greased bread pans. Let rise again until doubled. A Perfect Day

It is foggy and dark outside. A perfect day to let the mind wander. It is a full day of Julia Child today, that's been fun this morning. I will get to the movie, maybe this week. Julie & Julia I think it's called. But I learned the secret of popovers! You learn something new everyday. Don't use a pan, use separate custard cups, leaving room between them for the heat to circle, and that is what will make them really pop up. I think I will make some on Monday, I will be home for dinner, so I will make popovers and a shrimp salad. I will be able to use fresh peas. And I am making pesto, Have everything I need, think I will freeze in ice cube trays, then use when needed. And If I want fresh pesto, I only need to buy a container of basil, add a few ice cubes, made it stretch. Pick Sage to dry also, and I have a sage that is getting crowded out, gonna have to move that baby to it's own pot. And with this rain, weeds are growing again. I am hoping Monday is a sunny hot day

The Magic Shovel

The days have been brite ones. And I have been playing in my garden. This is the first year I have been able to have one at my apartment, And I have the perfect backyard for it. I had to borrow a shovel from a friend, and I told him if my garden grew it was because of the shovel. And I was not giving it back, the garden grew, the shovel has magical powers, good karma, whatever... It is also mine!!! I plan to give him plenty of veggies and flowers. That is the story of my magic shovel.
